Miracle:
For The Kids
This month I have also had the opportunity to continue my involvement at the Boys and Girls Club in Oxford. I have been tutoring once a week, and I can honestly say it has been such a blessing to see how I am making an impact there.
Last week I was working with a young girl on her English homework. We were looking up definitions of words, I asked her to read them out loud to me. At first she was nervous. She admitted she did not like to read in front of other people, especially in class. But by the time we finished doing her homework, I could already see a boost in her confidence. All she needed was encouragement, and I am so glad I was able to help her. When I left she gave me a hug and said "See you next week". Girls like her remind me why I find fulfillment in spending time at the Boys and Girls Club. I could tell she looked up to me and really listened to everything I said. But more than that, these kids remind me how a small act of kindness can mean the world to them.
I challenge you all reading this to take time each week to do something for someone else. Sometimes the seemingly small acts of kindness mean the most. You don't have to devote an afternoon to service to make a difference. Write a thank you note, donate old toys and books to your local Boys and Girls Club, or hold the door for someone. You will be surprised how much happier you feel knowing you helped someone else.
